"You can't do everything. But you can do anything, one thing at a time." ~Alex Mandossian
The above quote resonates with my soul at this moment. "You can't do everything." Doing everything in one moment is impossible. "But you can do anything, one thing at a time." Taking one step at a time achieves greatness. Complicated goals aren't achieved in one moment, but by taking a step at a time.
Holding on to the truth from this quote is what I need now. There are moments where overwhelming uncertainties grab my attention. When something unsure takes my focus, I need to slow myself down and remember this goal of becoming a writer happens one step at a time. Three uncertainties beg my attention and require me to pause and remember one step at a time.
Uncertain Expectations
What will happen next? Will this turn out? Is this what is expected? These questions all run through my mind as I am traveling on this writing journey. I try to read and figure out what writing looks like in the digital age. I grew up with handwritten stories in cursive. I read and take courses online, but sometimes I worry that I will miss an expectation. Slowing myself down, I realize it is okay to make mistakes and learn from them. I will make mistakes and not know everything that is expected. I need to take these moments as treasured lessons in my development as a writer.
Uncertain Quality
I press submit, wondering if the quality of the piece will meet the standards of the publication. I have written from my heart, ran it through 3 editing platforms, and poured over the piece in detail. I find my mind wandering to a place of insecurity in my knowledge of grammar and the craft of writing. Is my writing up to par? Taking a breath, I realize with every piece I gain that precious understanding. Every moment I write, I give myself the time and experience to create quality. I rest in the understanding that my writing will get better the more I write.
Uncertain Outcome
We all want to succeed. Whatever we are attempting and trying to achieve, we want to succeed. We hope for a successful outcome. We need to take risks to achieve success. Until we take that risk, we will never know if we have achieved it. If you are sitting on a dream, ask yourself if your dream fits your skills and passions. Do some honest analysis. If it does, take that risk even if you do not know the outcome. Take it, so you will not have regrets. I would rather have tried and failed than sit in regret for not trying. When I am unsure of an outcome, I need to remember this about myself.
In life, you will have moments where you will be overwhelmed and uncertain. Those moments can be strangling to progress and dreams. When you have moments of overwhelming uncertainties, slow down, take a breath, and remember "no regrets".
